Guidance on the shipment of infectious biological material (IS-0243)
In May 2008, DSB came up with a guide summarizing the most central requirements in the regulations for the shipment of infectious biological material, including patient samples. A basic document has also been prepared for the supervisor, which provides more comprehensive guidance on the topic.Correct handling and dispatch of infectious biological material (patient samples etc.) is important. Especially for the sake of patients, laboratory staff and postal and transport staff.
The Norwegian Directorate for Civil Protection has, in collaboration with the Directorate of Health, the National Institute of Public Health, the Veterinary Institute, the Norwegian Civil Aviation Authority and Posten Norge AS, prepared a practical guide on the dispatch of such material.
Practical guide with accompanying basic document replaces the circulars "Biological preparations in the post - new packaging rules" (IK-25/88), "Rules for sending biological preparations" (IK-2272), and "Biological preparations in the post - report" (IK 26/88) from the Directorate of Health.
The guidance is primarily intended for:
- Personnel who have an overall or executive responsibility for the shipment of biological material from the health service and medical laboratories
- Personnel who have an overall or executive responsibility for the shipment of biological material from all levels of the veterinary service
- Postal and Transport Staff
- Packaging Suppliers
NET has approved packaging for this use from Nordplasta, Sundplast, Peterson, Heger and more recently the transport sleeves (BL102 and BL108) for Erik Hoel (PDF). NET reinforces the positive by the fact that the players in the industry are now being tested on regulations and the use of approved packaging.
NB! It does not help that the packaging has been approved, if there is no conformity with type approval and content, the correct gross weight and the packaging regulations.
