NET’s assimilation list

NET’s assimilation list
NET has taken an important step in the dangerous goods industry by starting the testing of liquids against polyethylene to simplify the process of approval of plastic packaging. This initiative will streamline the use of different types of packaging in the transport of dangerous substances.

In the dangerous goods industry, there has long been a challenge with plastic packaging, particularly related to the lack of compatibility tests for many substances that are filled into bottles, jerricans and drums. NET has historically approved liquids that are not listed in ADR's "Assimilation list" for n.o.s. (not otherwise specified) substances, based on ADR's specific tests for each packaging. With the new initiative, NET is now testing the liquids directly against polyethylene. This means that manufacturers who wish to change packaging suppliers, or in cases where the packaging manufacturer changes the type of material, no longer need to carry out new tests. When substances are assigned under different standard liquids, it is essential that they receive approval for all standard liquids with at least the same density as the original liquid. This contributes to increased safety and efficiency in the handling of dangerous goods. NET's assimilation list can be found here.
