NET launches UN 2.0 for FIBC

NET and Aker in the Champions League

In recent years, NET has worked closely with Aker Biomarine to ensure the quality of their packaging (FIBCs and sacks) which is used for large quantities of krill meal (UN 3497) from the port in Uruguay to Norway. Since Krill meal is classified as class 4.2 substances liable to spontaneous combustion, naturally all packaging was already UN approved in various countries. However, this was not good enough for AKBM, who work with a zero philosophy for their packaging with regard to complaints. Relatively early in the work, it was stated that this was to be considered a "Champions League" for UN packaging, then based on the costs it entailed if packaging did not meet the necessary requirements that were set. A change of packaging supplier could be decisive for the "season's goal". Due to large transport flows of krill, Aker, like many others, has to deal with several different packaging suppliers. These are often difficult to compare when it comes to quality and the mechanical properties required in a tough maritime environment. When the company simultaneously wants to develop its packaging and constantly make it greener, stable quality is difficult to ensure. Aker therefore wanted to introduce a standard method for selecting suppliers and new packaging products. NET is proud to be chosen to collaborate with Aker to ensure this task. Both parties have learned a lot from several years of cooperation in this product-specific segment. The collaboration has ended with an agreement between AKBM and NET which, through, among other things, a regular spot check on already approved packaging, and a development plan that opens up the possibility of regularly developing the packaging more frequently than what the normal UN regime provides for. The work so far shows that if you want to play in the Champions League you have to be willing to get the right players to achieve results!
